Despite being promised a 5% bug bounty, the attacker on the HTX (Huobi) exchange returned all of the stolen money.

Mr. Justin Sun, the advisor for the HTX platform, confirmed the repayment from the hacker and awarded a bug bounty of 250 ETH to this person at the specified address.

On the evening of October 7, hackers, who attacked the HTX (formerly Huobi) at the end of September, sent back all 4,999 ETH siphoned from this platform. Lookonchain reports that the hacker made two transactions for transferring funds into the HTX’s hot wallet with the attached message as follows: “The message has been received. Please send the whitehat reward to the address 0x1Fc8674A51D6b97C968BE384337519CE7003152B. Your system has leaked the private key hot wallet. Please change its address and reduce the number of hot wallets on the exchange.”
Prior to this, HTX Exchange had notified the hacker immediately following the September 25 attack, allowing them to retain 5% of the funds obtained as a bug bounty reward—as long as they made the repayment by October 2. The exchange stated that it had identified the hacker and would report the incident to the police after the deadline.
Numerous theories presently exist regarding the hacker’s identity and the method by which he attacked the HTX, with some speculating that this was the work of an employee who has worked or is currently working for the exchange. However, none of the parties involved have confirmed it yet.
The recent incident is the first time in the HTX (Huobi)’s 10-year history that a security vulnerability has resulted in user damage.
